Netflix largely ends support for casting to Chromecast and TV

Netflix has quietly made changes to the company's apps. For several users, too, the cast icon has disappeared. In some cases, casting your series or film still works, but for the most part the feature has been kissed goodbye, Netflix has also confirmed...

Netflix stops casting

Just cast a series or movie from your phone or tablet, to the Chromecast or to your television. It is the most normal thing for a large group of users. Now it will soon be questionable whether this option will continue to work for every user. Following reports from Tweakers and several users on Reddit, it is becoming clear that Netflix has restricted support for casting from your mobile device to a Chromecast, Google TV device or television. Netflix's support page has also since been updated, which reads the following;

"Netflix no longer supports casting series from a mobile device to most TVs and streaming devices. Please use your TV or streaming device's remote control to navigate Netflix."

The streaming service reveals that "older Chromecasts" and "TVs that do work with Google Cast" are still supported. However, it does not specifically share which devices will and will no longer work for casting, and so that remains guesswork for users. However, Google Nest Hubs, for example, could still be used for casting. This also applies to the Chromecast V3 (without a remote control) and some Vizio and Compal TVs. Netflix advises users who want to cast to use the service on the television itself, or in combination with a streaming device that still supports it.
