Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide surfaced in hands-on: wider design and extremely thin

The first hands-on images of the wider Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide have surfaced. A dummy unit shows a considerably different design than we are used to from the Fold series.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide

The most striking difference is the width. Whereas the current Galaxy Z Fold series has a narrow exterior, this year Samsung opts for a much wider ratio. Folded closed, this makes the device look less like a traditional smartphone and more like the original Pixel Fold. Folded open, this results in an indoor screen with a ratio that looks more pleasant for videos and games.

What is also immediately noticeable in the images is how thin the device looks. Dickson compares the profile thickness to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. That would put the device under 6 millimetres when folded shut, although given the thickness of the USB-C port, that doesn't seem entirely realistic. In any case, the impression the dummy unit makes is impressive.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide hands-on

Samsung is releasing two Galaxy Z Fold 8 models this year. The wider model will go by as the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the narrower version will be named Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Both devices are expected to be announced in late July, along with the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and new Galaxy Watch models.
